Hell

Sometimes hell is other people.
and sometimes hell is Ke$ha on endless repeat.

Cheap Entertainment ... and times are tight

I really need to be doing something other than writing Missed Connections on Craigslist and seeing who replies. The best are when I post them in cities I've never been in.

Had a meet and greet with a store manager. I did a coffee tasting, paring one coffee which had been designed for restaurant use with 3 food items, to simulate an appetizer, entree and dessert.

He not only hated most of the pairing because it was savory, but he didn't think that I had any passion for food or coffee.

Are you fucking serious?

While I didn't come to LA to shine as a Barista, I hate people thinking that I'm not excellent at my job.

It's been a while since I've written anything other than a facebook status.

I'm planning on taking a writing class with second city in the next few months if I can do so without selling a kidney.

On a note that doesn't involve my bitching about my perspicacity deficit (lost 2 pairs of shoes, 2 pairs of spectacles, 1 v. expensive bra and my ability to remember customer orders)

uh... digress...

oh yeah! Lisa Congdon! She's an artist who, among other things, takes photos/draws collections. She did one collection a day for 2010. My favorites include the vintage airline bag tags, office supplies and fighter posters.

Food

Quick updates:
I'm getting moved to yet another coffee shop.

The newest internship is doing well, but I don't think that casting is where I want to be.

I love food. I love words. I love coffee. I love cocktails.

I love THIS cocktail, particularly the vodka version: http://www.chefkatealiveandcooking.com/cocktail.html

I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Kate the other day over brunch at Doughboys. If you're in LA and you eat meat? I highly recommend the red flannel corned beef hash.

As for a sight you should be reading:

It is beyond wonderful.

Sometimes I forget what coffee is.
And by that I mean, that of late I've been tossing my espresso shots back without any more thought to taste than I do the taste of my vitamins.

And sometimes, I have a cup of coffee that blows me away and reminds me that the depth and taste and texture of a good cup of coffee is a hot little 8oz miracle.

The miracle in question of today's topic is: Nicaragua Corcasan from Starbucks.

I had it brewed on the clover machine which has been recently installed in a select number of Starbucks. Surprisingly mild to start with, light acidity, it got a heavier mouthfeel as it got down into the second half of the cup. Not necessarily a heavier taste, but a more complex one. I could take hints of citrus and hints of something almost chocolate. All in all a really good cup of coffee.

Solitude is a rare rare thing for me these days. Unless it is at 6:15 in the morning and I'm walking down the still dark streets of Beverly Hills on my way to work.

The other day, I had it. Comfortable place to sit, a computer, no tv. and the muse was home. I was ready to start working on that pilot. I let the itunes play, I opened the final draft... and nearly started to cry.

At first I thought that perhaps I just didn't have the memory to listen to music and write my script at the same time.

But no. The laptop is running out of magic and when I open up a document in final draft, I get the spinning rainbow wheel of doom.

I don't really need this right now. I could really stand to have a computer where I could use final draft on it. And then SAVE the document to the computer.

On the upside, a wonderful friend sent me Script magazine. It was a pick me up on a day when I needed it. Another upside was that I got to sleep in an actual bed that isn't related to a pool float.
